Calvin H. Henry, 77, of Washington, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in the Washington Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several years. He was born on May 12, 1939, in Washington, a son of the late Wallace N. and Kathryn Blackshear Gray Henry. Mr. Henry attended Washington schools, before graduating from Trinity High School in 1957. While in high school, he played several sports, and received a football scholarship to Memphis State University. After spending a year there, he suffered a broken collar bone, and returned home at the end of the school year for surgery. He did not return to the University after his injury. Mr. Henry worked at several jobs, before working at American Foods, where he worked his way up the ladder to manager, and then president. He bought the packing house, and operated it until 1996, when he sold the business. Calvin then operated American Foods Deli, in Washington, until his retirement in 2012. On July 29, 1961, he married Sandra L. Scandale, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Loriann (John) Putzier, of Butler, Brian A. Henry, of Washington, Melinda J. (Carmine) Carrier, of Washington, and Calvin E. (Lisa) Henry, of Washington; a sister, Janice (Ronald) Zullo, of Alliquippa; six grandchildren, Erika (Tom) Wyant, Michael Carrier, Preston Henry, Evan Carrier, Alexandra Henry, and Nathan (Lindsey) Putzier; a great grandchild, Sebastian Putzier; several nieces, nephews and cousins, his aunt and uncle Joseph and Ida Scandale, of Claysville; and his beloved dog, Coco. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Eileen Muncie, and a brother, Edward Henry. Friends will be received on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty-Four, PA 15330.
