Charles W. Devenney

Charles W. Devenney, 78, resident of Southminster Place, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. He was born on December 1, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late William Henry and Ruth Morris Devenney. Mr. Devenney was a 1956 graduate of Trinity High School, and received an accounting degree from Penn Commercial College. He was a member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church, where he was very active, holding various offices, including Elder. Charles was a member of the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society, and a volunteer for Washington County Tourism. He enjoyed taking pictures, and collecting covered bridge postcards. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. A former member of the Buffalo Grange, he was also a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Devenney retired, after forty years of service, from Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation. On August 8, 1959, he married Mary Ann Ashmore, who died on October 22, 2015. Surviving are a son, Steven (April) Devenney, of Washington; two daughters, Lori (James) Naser, of Washington, and Karen (Edward) Thomas, of Berlin, PA; two brothers, John (Nancy) Devenney, of Washington, and George (Carol) Devenney, of Erie; and six grandchildren, Brad and Zachary Naser, Bethany and Jacob Thomas, and Jackson and Abigail Devenney. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017, with Rev. Donna Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Laboratory Presbyterian Church, 23 Manse Street, Washington, PA 15301, or the Parkinson’s Foundation of Western PA, 575 Lincoln Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15202.
