Merl Curtis Johns

Merl Curtis Johns, 92 of Washington, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Hawthorne Woods. He was born March 2, 1924 in Washington, the son of the late Homer Johns and Bertha Maze Johns. Merl graduated from Washington High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in WWII. He worked for Washington Steel Corp. for 52 years and previously at Duncan Miller Glass. Merl was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church, where he was a deacon for many years. He loved country western music and had previously hosted a morning show on WJPA. He played guitar at the Wheeling Jamboree and while in the Army he played for the troops with Gene Autry. He also enjoyed going to garage sales. On June 26, 1946, he married Aldine Carter, who died October 20, 2004. Surviving are a son, Tracy (Pam) Johns of Hopkinsville, KY; two daughters, Linda Levers of Colorado Springs, CO, Vicki (John) Sisson of Washington; three grandchildren, Maggie Sisson, Trey Sisson and Reagan Dahl; two great grandchildren, Sydni and Alex Dahl. Deceased are four brothers, Lester, Howard, Sherman and Leonard Johns; a sister, Helen Chew, also one died as an infant. All services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington.
