John Kumer, 89, of Hickory, died on Monday, December 26, 2016, in his home.
He was born on November 12, 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Alex and Julia Sabo Kumer.
Mr. Kumer was retired from Consol, where he had worked at various mines, including Bailey, Lynn Portal and Matthews Mines, for over forty-five years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1950 until his honorable discharge as a Corporal, in 1952.
John enjoyed his daughter’s farm, helping the family with projects, and tinkering with, and fixing equipment.
On June 5, 1953, he married Donna Jean McFarland, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Ralph A. (the late Frances) Kumer, of Washington; a daughter, Terri L. (Richard) Kumer McGinnis, of Washington; a daughter-in-law, Sherri Kumer, of Hickory; grandchildren, Carly and Richard McGinnis, Gregory J. Kumer, Jr., Joshua Kumer, Laken Kumer, Bridgette Davis, Linda Buchert, Marcy Morosko, Jackie Ann Gurdish, Timmy Reedy, Jennifer Poland, and Thomesina Sonson; and several great grandchildren.
Deceased are son, Gregory J. Kumer, a daughter, Cindy R. Poland, and siblings, Alex Kumer, Jr., Dora Wylie, Margaret Anderson, and Libby Blatner; and a brother-in-law, James McFarland.
Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Stuart Broberg officiating.
Burial will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
