Penny Lee Manning, 59, of Canonsburg, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016, in her home.
She was born on April 5, 1957, in Washington, a daughter of the late Martha Dunfee.
Surviving are her husband, John Manning; two daughters, Caitlin Manning of Oceanview, Delaware and Lauren Manning of Canonsburg; and a sister, Dora Plants of Washington. Deceased is a brother, Don Mounts.
Penny will be remembered by those who knew her as faithful daughter, attentive mother, good-natured wife, humorous friend, and enjoyable co-worker. During her mother’s long illness Penny was there to provide comfort and ease in any way possible. It consumed much of her time with never a word of complaint.
As a mother she was responsible for the rearing of two daughters who are fine human beings because of her efforts to raise them properly, educate them, and teach them moral values.
Her husband could not have found a more perfect mate who was not only pretty, but smart. Many was the time he was working on a project and having a hard time of it. She would say, “why don’t you do it this way instead?” Of course she was right, and he would say, “Hey remember, you’re supposed to be the pretty one, and I’m the smart one!”
She made friends easily, and two of those friendships have lasted decades. That sense of humor she had was enjoyed by all who worked with her. Her time at Canon-Macmillan as a “lunch lady” at Cecil Elementary School she really enjoyed despite the occasional grumbling. Penny worked all her life, even from her teen years. Nothing was ever clean enough, neat enough, or done right unless she did it. Those who loved her understood that.
It was fortunate that she was able to spend her final days at home, in her own bed, cared for by family, and with little pain.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday from Noon to 4 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
