Mardelle Virginia Walter Jankoski, 88 of Washington, died Saturday, December 3, 2016.
She was born December 15, 1927, in Cameron, West Virginia, a daughter of William Christian Walter and Lulu Rae Miller Walter.
At the age of 15, Mardelle moved from Cameron, West Virginia to Washington, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Trinity High School in 1945. Immediately following graduation, she entered nurses training under the Cadet Nurse Program at Canonsburg General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1948.
Mrs. Jankoski worked several years as the office nurse for Dr. J.A. Johnston Sr. & Sons, worked as the operating room supervisor at Mayview State School and Hospital, and retired from Meadowlands Rehabilitation Hospital in 1988.
In 1949, she married J. Richard Jankoski (“Uncle Rich” to all who knew him), of Canonsburg. He died October 2008.
Also deceased are a sister, Verenia Young; a brother, Frederick Walter; and nephews, Steven Young and Bernie Jankowski.
Surviving are nieces, Joanne (Kevin) Warco, Janet (Scott) Morris and Alicia Jankowski-Wilson (Colin); nephews, Gregory (Laura) Walter, Mark (Linda) Walter and Kevin Young (Martha Milan); great-nieces and great-nephews, Clark, Keith and Karley Young, Greg (Kristi), Emma and Paige Walter, Shannon (Lee) Garrett, Alyssa Warco, Camryn and Spencer Morris, Cheri (David) Barthelmes, Brenda Young, Jared Jankowski, and Alyza and Garrett Grimm; great-great nieces, Payton Barthelmes, Kamryn and Sylvie Young; a great-great nephew, Exavior Rivera; and sister-in-law, Lois Walter.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m., the time of service, on Wednesday, December 7th, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
