Harold Leslie Riggs, 71, of Washington, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the VA Hospital, Aspinwall. He was born May 13, 1945, in Washington, a son of the late Leslie Clarence Riggs and Mabel Ruby Degarmo Riggs. Harold was a graduate of Washington High School, and graduated Triangle Tech with an Associate's Degree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., having served during the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Marksman M-14 Rifle Badge. Mr. Riggs was employed at Penn Transformer/Cooper Industries as a sheet metal fabricator for over 30 years. He was a member of the Jessop Club. Mr. Riggs loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed shopping, vacations and traveling, watching sports on television, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, and years ago he had enjoyed riding motorcycles. On July 5, 1968, he married Bessie Virginia Plance, who died May 22, 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Teresa R. Huff of Washington; two sisters, Donna Moore of Sanford, FL, Cathy (Denny) Staggers of Prosperity; two grandchildren, Jessica (Glenn Michael) V. Hardin of Washington, Joshua (Breann Hackney) M. Huff of Washington; a great granddaughter, Emma Rose Hardin; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Robert “Scott” Riggs, who died July 14, 2012, and his siblings, Phyllis Morgan, Ronald Riggs, Hazel Miller, Lois Barker, Gene Riggs, Marlene Kaske, Robert Riggs. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Prospect Cemetery, where his son Scott will be buried with him. The Marine Corps League will hold a service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
