Joseph Edward Behanna Sr., 73 of Washington, died Monday, November 21, 2016 at home.
He was born November 5, 1943 in Washington, the son of the late Amos Behanna and Audrey Belcher Behanna.
Joseph was a horse owner and groomsman at the Meadows Race Track, retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the Meadows Track Chapel.
Joseph loved his family and was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, pigeon racer, coon hunter and horseman. He enjoyed blues music and dancing and loved animals.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph E. (Lisa) Behanna Jr. of Washington, Amos (Paige) Behanna of Indianapolis, IN, Andrew (Amanda) Behanna of Washington; three daughters, Tammy (Kenny) McCombs of Washington; Jody Colbert of Washington, Marcia Smith of Washington; two sisters, Henrietta (William) Powell of Scenery Hill and Mary (Jim) Clemens of West Alexander; fourteen grandchildren, Dale and William Sibert, Carley, Kayla, Lillyann and Rudy Behanna, Korey, Kevin and Amber McCombs, Micah and Travis Elliott, Austin and Anastasia Locy, and Tyler Smith; three great grandchildren, Faith, Keira, Joseph Dale Sibert; son in law, Eric Elliott of Spraggs; former wife, Patricia Garrett of Washington; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Patti Jo Elliott; first wife, Linda L. Miller; brother, Andrew “Bud” Behanna; best friend, Jimmy Donley; nephew, Melvin Arthur.
Friends will be received Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating. Burial is private.
