Dominick J. “Scooter” Romano Jr., 85 of Washington, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Golden Living, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 3, 1931 in Washington, the son of the late Dominick J. Romano Sr. and Rose Bellotti Romano. Dominick was a graduate of Trinity High School and served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict, where he received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. He worked at NABCO as a welder for 28 years and then Millcraft as a welder until his retirement. Dominick was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the Elks #766 in Washington. He played baseball in Japan with the Army, after the Army he played with Alpine Club and Polish Club Community softball leagues. He then played minor league baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Browns. While in the minors he got drafted with St. Louis first and then the Phillies bought his contract. In 1992 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He also coached and managed the local American Legion Baseball Team and 1975 won the National Series in Freeport. Dominick was very active in Boy’s baseball and the Pony League World Series and served as a team host and hosted several teams. Dominick enjoyed golf, dartball, fishing and love spending time with his grandchildren. On April 14, 1957 he married Elaine L. D’Agostino, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Pamela L. (John) Phillips of Washington; a son, Dominick R. (Patricia) Romano of Chartiers; a brother, Joseph (Cheryl) Romano of Milford, DE, two grandchildren, Bethany R. Romano of Chartiers and Nicole M. Phillips of Lone Pine; several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Russell Roveno; a sister Isabelle Loughman. Friends will be received Friday, October 14, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Greenleaf and Pastor Keith Meir officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
