Mike Ferrari, 80 of Washington, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Donnell House, after a 15-month courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side. He was born September 3,1936 in Avella, the son of the late Angelo Ferrari and Rosa Dotto Ferrari. Mike graduated from Avella High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1955 to 1957. He was an ironworker for 31 years and a member of Ironworkers Local Union #3. He then worked at Washington Steel for ten years before retiring. Mike was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Pony League World Series and mentored many young athletes through Washington Youth Baseball. Mike was a supportive and committed father, who encouraged his family to be grateful for one another. He also was a dedicated friend and offered a helping hand when needed. He was a beloved pappy to his grandchildren and his commitment was unwavering, never missing an opportunity to support them through their many sports and activities. On July 9,1960 he married Patricia A. Durish, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Michele S. (Howie) Millick of Washington, Kevin M. (Lisa) Ferrari of Houston, Michael (Fiancé’ Stephanie) Ferrari of Stafford, VA and Lori A. (Ed) Diesel of Washington; his beloved grandchildren, Karissa (Michael) Quinlan and Kaylyn Millick, Alec and Alyson Ferrari, Makenzie and Jared Embert; a brother, Frank (Peggy) Ferrari of New Jersey; two sisters, Mary Ferrari of Avella and Rose Ferrari of Washington; sister in law, Catherine Ferrari of Bridgeville; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Deceased are three brothers, James Ferrari, Biggs Ferrari and Angelo Ferrari; three sisters, Gina Jones, Nora Hills and Til Ferrari. Friends will be received Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 2 to 9 p.m. and Friday, September 30 from 11:00 to 12:30 the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Concordia Hospice of Washington (Donnell House) 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301 or a charity of one’s choice.
