Carol Jean Atchison

Carol Jean Atchison, 84, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in the Washington Hospital. She was born September 22, 1931, in Langeloth, a daughter of the late Ralph Wick Melvin and Anna Elizabeth Sanders Melvin. Mrs. Atchison worked at the former Gee Bee’s Department Store as a supervisor. She enjoyed bingo and going to the casino. Mrs. Atchison loved her children and grandchildren. On September 29, 1950, she married Thomas F. Atchison, Sr., who died February 2, 2005. Surviving are a son, Thomas F. (Eliza) Atchison, Jr.; four daughters, Sharon (Steve) Welch, Kathy Comer, Debra Atchison and Debbie (Harry) Reedy, all of Washington; a sister, Pauline Withers of Northfield, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Deceased are five brothers, Frank, Johnny, Alferd, Ralph and Adrian; and a sister, Dorothy Reynolds. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 29th, with Pastor Robert Englert officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
