Phyllis Gray Cowden, 83 of Prosperity, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. She was born May, 23, 1933 in Houston, the daughter of the late Curtis and Ruth Dunn Gray. She was employed by Mayview State Hospital for 29 years as an occupational aide and supervisor. Phyllis was a member of the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Elder, Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. She also served as Moderator of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She was a member of the Prosperity Homemakers, the Chartiers Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Classy Ladies Card Club. She loved her family, her life on the farm, and quilting. On September 15, 1951, she married Russell L. Cowden, who survives. Also surviving are children Russell L. (Carolyn Griffith) Cowden Jr. of Poland, Ohio, Susan (Greg) Dunn of Prosperity; Gary M. (Jane) Cowden of Hickory and Bruce E. (Sandra) Cowden of Prosperity; twelve grandchildren, Russell L. (Tamara) Cowden III, Daniel Cowden, Greg (Amanda) Dunn Jr., Robert (Leslie) Dunn, Alex (Joelle) Cowden, Hannah (Jordan) Lenzz, Samuel (Brianne) Cowden, Scott Cowden, Eric Cowden, Courtney Cowden, Matthew (Jess) Law and Daniel (Lauren) Law; eight great grandchildren, Riley and Erin Dunn, Emmett and Graham Dunn, Evelyn Cowden, Madison, Carter and Reagan Law. Deceased are twin daughters, Robin and Ruth Cowden who died at birth; three brothers, Wesley Gray, Richard Gray and Gene Gray. Friends will be received Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Prosperity Cemetery.
