Edith Mae Powers Zelenka, 83 of Washington, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Transitions Health Care.
She was born August 24, 1932 in Washington the daughter of the late Charles Powers and Bessie Beatty Powers.
Edith was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as a teletype operator, where she received the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
She worked at the Washington Hospital as an EKG Technician until retirement. She also worked at Bell Telephone in her early years.
Edith enjoyed playing Keno at the Meadows, traveling with her sister, spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially visiting her grandson John in Latrobe.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.
On April 23, 1953 she married Edward Richard Zelenka Sr., who died June 3, 2014.
Surviving are two sons, Edward R. Zelenka Jr. and Stephen M. Zelenka both of Washington; two daughters, Debra Winfield and Rebecca (Dave) Cecchine both of Washington; four grandchildren, John Michael Burnette Jr., Kyra (Joe) Matachak, Kellie Winfield and Samantha Zelenka and three great grandchildren, Jacob, Alyson and Joshua.
Deceased are a brother, Kenneth Powers and a sister, Helen Levers.
Friends will be received Friday, July 29, 2016 from noon to 2:00 p.m. the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Burial is private.
