William W. Roberts, 82, of Washington, died peacefully at home, following a four-year battle with cancer, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, with his family by his side.
He was born on July 10, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late John and Geraldine Kinder Roberts.
He was a 1952 graduate of Trinity High School.
Bill retired from Precision-Marshall Steel, in 1992, and following that, he drove a school bus for Schweinebraten Bus Company, for over sixteen years.
Mr. Roberts was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Bears, in Meadowlands, many of these years serving as a Trustee. Along with his wife, Mary, Bill enjoyed over twenty years in the Bears Club dartball league. He was a lifetime member of the Washington Elks Lodge #776, and played in their golf league for over twenty years.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Taylorstown American Legion.
For a brief time, he played minor league baseball for the Giants.
One of his favorite activities was golf, and he often played at the Greene County Country Club, where he had been a member since 1989.
He enjoyed watching the Pirates and the Steelers.
You could always find Bill in his garden or feeding the birds. He loved animals. Another favorite pastime was hunting with his nephew, James Friend, who built, and kept his tree stand safe and warm on the hill.
On March 9, 1974, he married Mary Louise Polan, who survives. They had forty-two wonderful years together.
Also surviving are a son, William D. (Kathy) Roberts, of Scenery Hill; four daughters, Paula Heise, of Washington, Leisa J. (Bud) Shawley, of Eighty-Four, Cathy (Ed) Hartner, of Washington, and Nanette (Larry) McNeal, of Scenery Hill; nine grandchildren, Joshua and Jeramiah Roberts, Dominick and Caleb ValDuga, Justin and Ryan Truby, Nicole Policano, and Meghan and Danelle McNeal; eight great grandchildren, Trevor, Tyler, Madison, Alex, Emma, Sienna, Vivienne and Nathan; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Harry Roberts, formerly of Grapevine, TX.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation, and all additional services are at the convenience of the family.
