Edith W. Sanders, 88, of Sandy Lake, formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
Edith was born in Washington, a daughter of John L. and Myrtle Stauffer Whiteman.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and was a long-time employee of the Observer Publishing Company and a member of the PA Association of Notaries for over 40 years.
Edith was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church (formerly Allison Avenue Baptist Church) where she served as financial secretary for 18 years. Prior to that, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.
On November 4, 1948, she married Irvin W. Sanders, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Irvin W. “Vin” (Roanna) Sanders of Davenport, Florida and Patrice (Todd) Van Dyke of Sandy Lake; three grandsons, J. Patrick Penvose of Canonsburg, Jeffrey (Kristen) Sanders of Ocoee, Florida and Christopher Sanders of Davenport, Florida; one great-grandson, Isaac Penvose; a soon to be born great-granddaughter; two step grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Marsh of Richland Hills, Texas and Daniel Van Dyke of Sandy Lake; a step great-grandchild, Grace Marsh; and a sister, Doris Nevin of Washington.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the time of services, Tuesday, July 5th, in Abundant Life Baptist Church, 269 Cameron Road, Washington, with Rev. George Garancosky officiating. Private burial will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, at the convenience of the family.
