Anna Sophia Kurowski, 87, of Washington, left this world peacefully, on Sunday, June 12, 2016, to spend time with her Lord and Savior.
She was called “Annie” and “Hanusha”, by her closest friends.
Born on February 23, 1929, in Krakow, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Francizka Sleziak, and Franek Sleziak.
She was one of four children, living in Krakow, Poland, when she came to the United States, as a war bride, to marry Albert John Kurowski, Jr., at the age of nineteen.
During her lifetime, she worked at Imperial Cleaners, and then on the custodial staff of the Washington County Courthouse, while putting two children through college who went on to become a doctor and lawyer. She was a true example of the American Spirit, always finding work to help support her, instead of relying on the government to support her family. That was the strong work ethic that she instilled in her children.
She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening, raising her own plants from seeds, and canning her own vegetables, which has become a lost art. Anna loved planting, and taking care of her roses and barrel cactus. Any visitor to her house was always asked if they were hungry, and if so, she would make you something to eat.
Mrs. Kurowski was a longtime member of Calvary Temple Church, in Washington.
On July 4, 1948, she married Albert John Kurowski, who preceded her in death. She was always a faithful wife, and devoted mother to her two children. She led a simple life, gardening, cooking, baking, and cleaning. Her home was so spotless that her friends joked, “you could eat off her floors.”
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Dr. Frank Kurowski, M.D., of Philadelphia, and Attorney Charles E. Kurowski, and daughter-in-law, Sherry (Maley) Kurowski, of Washington, and her niece, Sophie Murphy, and her husband, James Murphy, of Waynesboro.
Friends will be received in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, June 15, from 9 to 11 a.m., the time of services, with Rev. James Newman officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, PA.
