Rev. John Lawrence Varner, 81, of Washington, died June 8, 2016, in Transitions HealthCare.
He was born March 24, 1935, in Osage, West Virginia, a son of Everette B. and Pearl M. Lytton Varner.
Rev. Varner served in the Army during the Korean War.
A minister who loved preaching the Gospel, he founded Apostolic Gospel Church in Washington as well as several other churches.
Rev. Varner loved spending time with his family.
His wife, Rev. Wanda June Christopher Varner, whom he married on December 15, 1956, died on February 2, 2010.
Surviving are a son, Roger Ray (Lisa) Adams of Clarksville; a daughter, Sheila Mae Adams of Washington; a brother, Glenn Varner of Kingsport, Tennessee; two sisters, Kathleen Kelly (Jim) of Washington and Mildred Keller of Kansas City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, C.J. Adams, Angela Harris, Jessica Megginson, Amanda Alton, Nathan Wise, April Snyder, Alison Adams, Corey Adams and Justin Adams; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Casey Adams; and siblings, Fred, Kenneth, William, James, Patrick, Michael, Charles, Robert, Lula, Ethel and Ellen.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m., the time of service, on Monday, June 13th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Allen Jeffries officiating. Burial will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna.
