Kathleen Keranko, mother of 3 and grandmother of 6, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, after two years living with cancer. She was born on August 28, 1947, in Washington and is the daughter of the late Albert Flis and Mary Comito Flis. Kathy was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from California University of Pennsylvania. She was a passionate educator for various school districts and later owned and taught her own pre-school program. Kathy was full of life and loved dancing, shopping, Sabika jewelry and spending time with her grandchildren. She always enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and other activities. Kathy was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church where she was often seen as the greeter or Eucharistic Minister. On August 16, 1969, Kathy married her one true love, Richard Keranko, who later died on June 24, 2001. They are survived by their two sons, Stephen (Crystal) Keranko of Rochester, IN, Matthew (Heather) Keranko of Charleroi, and their only daughter, Mary Lee (Dwight) Merilatt of Normal, IL. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Madison, RJ, Hannah, Jackson, Gabby, and Drew; a sister, Rosemary (William) Tarr; a niece and two nephews, Abby Rawlins, Chris and Greg Tarr. Friends will be received Sunday, June 5, 2016, from noon until 3 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd. 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 6, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father Don Chortos as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Washington Mausoleum.
