John Shuba, Jr.

John Shuba, Jr., 82, of Washington, died Thursday, May 26, 2016, in Manor Care, McMurray. He was born August 29, 1933, in Washington, a son of Polish immigrants John Shuba, Sr., and Mary Kopko Shuba. A Korean War Veteran, Mr. Shuba served in the Navy from March 24, 1952, until his honorable discharge on March 1, 1956. For his service, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Korean Service Medal. Mr. Shuba retired from the Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, the Loyal Order of Moose, and Washington Racing Pigeon Club. Mr. Shuba enjoyed hunting and harness racing. Known as “Pap” to everyone that knew him, he was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. On July 13, 1956, he married Margaret Ellen Anderson, who died February 22, 2009. Surviving are three sons, John A. (Donna) Shuba of Hickory, Michael (Shelia) Shuba of Lone Pine, and Kevin (Tara) Shuba of Burgettstown; two daughters, Kimberly (the late Dr. Barry) Betts and Julie (the late Jeff) Eidens, both of Washington; three brothers, Stanley (Alice) Shuba, Mike (Louise) Shuba and Sam Shuba, all of Washington; a sister, Helen Sumney of Eighty Four; 13 grandchildren, John Shuba (Jairia), Adam “AJ” Shuba (Brittany), Bob Shuba (Cass), Amanda Rose Shuba, Steven Shuba (fiancée Sarah Farquhar), Aaron Shuba, Holly Winland (Kyle), Katie Shuba (Dylan Delcourte), Timothy Betts (Karlee Hoffman), Andrew Betts (fiancée Amanda Bannister), Scott Betts, Jeffrey Eidens (Shannon Brock) and Zachary Eidens; four great-grandchildren, Jace Eidens, Whitney Eidens, Elizabeth Eidens and Jack Shuba; three half-sisters, Violet McKinney of Washington, Bertha Wade (Ernie) of Virginia and Millie Shuba of Youngstown; a nephew, Larry (Ann) Kopko of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a half-brother, Henry Shuba. Friends will be received on Sunday from Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 31st, with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at the Meadows in care of CHHA, Meadows Racetrack, 210 Racetrack Road, Washington, PA 15301. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
