A Friend to Everyone He Met
Al Chieffalo, Jr., 63, of Washington, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016, in Kade Nursing Home, surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health for nine years.
Mr. Chieffalo had been with Amedisys Hospice since October 15, 2015. Prior to that, he was in Medi Home Health Care. He received wonderful care from both organizations.
He was born on September 22, 1952, in Cleveland, OH, a son of the late Albert Chieffalo, Sr., and Rose (Joe) Witkowski.
Al attended Wheeling High School until the 11th grade. He was proud to have served in the U. S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Chieffalo had worked at ARC Human Services, Western Center, and had done janitorial work and furniture delivery.
He was a maintenance worker at Washington and Jefferson College, until his illness, Multiple Myeloma, limited his ability to work, resulting in his retirement in July, 2007.
Al held a position at the Slovak Club, in Washington, and was a member of the Polish Club, and Pulaski Club, in Washington.
He shared six years of his life, with Bill Britton, who lived with the family, and was his best friend.
Karen Camp, of Claysville, holds a special place in his heart. He had made his home with her family, prior to 1990, and she was like a daughter to him.
Prior to his illness, he enjoyed playing darts and softball, fishing, and sight seeing.
Mr. Chieffalo enjoyed watching Steeler and Pirates games, and was an avid fan of WVU and Pitt sports. He also enjoyed all of the crime scene shows.
Bird watching, planting vegetable plants, and watching his favorite flower bushes bloom, were also favorite pastimes.
Al was a collector of eagles, and was always proud to display his American flag.
His favorite pastime were his pets, friends and family. He was a friend to everyone he met.
On July 2, 2005, he married Linda Clemens, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Patrick (Bri) Chieffalo, of Washington; three children to a previous marriage, Charles “Chuck” (Pam) Chieffalo, of Martins Ferry, OH; Patricia Lynne Chieffalo, of Wheeling, WV; and Albert “Ace” Chieffalo, III, of Ohio; five grandchildren, Wesley (Kylie), Taylor, Patience, Michael, Catlin and A.J., all of Ohio and WV, and a great granddaughter, Caleigh Chieffalo; a brother, Joseph John “Jay” (Dee) Chieffalo, of Wheeling, WV; and a sister, Debbie Chieffalo, of Wheeling, WV; his stepmother, Virginia Chieffalo, of Shadyside, OH, and her daughters, Trina, Pam, and Lois, and their husbands.
He will also be sadly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sister-in-law, and all his family and friends.
Deceased are three sisters, Marie Chieffalo, Theresa, and Janet Chieffalo, and a half sister, Beth Ann.
Friends will be received in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from 1 to 7 p.m., the time of services, with Rev. Keith Meier officiating.
