Russell Joseph Chuey

Russell Joseph Chuey, 91, of Scenery Hill, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in his sleep after a two-month illness. He was born October 29, 1924, in Washington, a son of the late Andrew and Mary Gamble Chuey. Mr. Chuey was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II from 1943 to 1946. His duties included serving aboard the USS Auburn, on Merchant Marine ships, and on oar boats, as well as serving at the Navy’s Armed Guard Center in Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Chuey was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946, with a rank of Radioman, third class. He worked as a machine operator at Brockway Glass Plant #7 for 23 years, retiring when the plant closed. Mr. Chuey moved to the family farm in 1957, where he resided until his passing. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Washington Eagles and Washington Moose Lodge. Mr. Chuey loved animals and loved to travel and visit casinos. In addition, he enjoyed reading and listening to country music. Mr. Chuey was Protestant by faith. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Sylvia Priscella Chenney Chuey, whom he married on January 5, 1954; three daughters, Elaine (Ed) Fullgraf of Claysville, Vivian Louise Daniels of New Concord, Ohio, and Marie (Michael) Moody of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; a brother, Robert (Phil) Chuey of Meadowlands; a sister, Helen Marie Cipalone of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Deceased are a son, William Foflygen, and a sister, Mary Louise Panchura. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 16th, with Rev. Sue Petritis of Gateway Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
