Robert “Tom” Thomas Sterling, 76, of Washington, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 29, 1940, into the Ray family, and was adopted by Harry and Gertrude Sterling at an early age.
Mr. Sterling was a bricklayer, with Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9.
Tom loved to travel, and enjoyed visiting family in Texas and Florida. He also enjoyed NASCAR Racing and going on cruises, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Tom was a very loving man, who could never say anything bad about anyone.
On March 4, 1967, he married Kathleen Jean “Kitty” McCurry, who survives. Following a divorce, they were remarried on April 16, 2002.
With his first wife, Anita Louise Noaker, he had three children, Robert V. (Roxanne) Sterling, Sheri L. Quinn, and Linda S. (Jeff) Newman, all of Ohio. With his second wife, Kathleen Jean McCurry, he had four children, Brenda L. (Randy) McDonald, Paul H. (Carmen) Harshall, Jr., Lisa E. (Mac) McComas, and Teresa L. (Jeff) Huseman, all of PA; and two additional children, Robert T. (Kristie) Sterling and James M. Brock, both of PA.
Also surviving are a sister, Kathy (Ray) Terhorst, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and special members of the Ray family.
Deceased are two sons, Thomas Robert Sterling and Robert Thomas Sterling; three brothers and three sisters.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m., the time of services, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd.
