Joseph Peter Biss, 101, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington. He was born March 19, 1915, in Washington, a son of the late Petro and Victoria Urban Biss. Mr. Biss was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended Washington & Jefferson College. He was employed at B.F. Drakenfield as a lab tech. Mr. Biss was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he was former president and a member of the choir. He was past president of the Polish Club and was also a member of Toast Masters and Washington Country Club, where he was a club champion. Mr. Biss was the lone surviving member of the Washington Generals semipro team that won the American Conference Championship in 1936. He also played baseball on the company team and loved to sing and polka. He also enjoyed gardening, where his yard had nothing but vegetables and flowers. On September 4, 1944, he married Helen Karoleski, who died November 9, 2009. Surviving are two sons, John (Mary) Biss of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Victor Biss of Washington; two brothers, Frank Biss and Al Biss, both Florida; four grandchildren, Terri Biss, Karen (George) Russell, Jason (Andrea) Biss and Adrienne Jerson-Biss; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Daniel Biss; a brother, Matthew Biss; and a sister, Mary Kosek. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, with Father Mark Swoger, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery Repair and Upkeep Fund, 605 Hewitt Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
