Wilma Fisher Beeghly, 97, of Washington, passed from this life on Thursday, March 24, 2016. She was born on December 27, 1918, in Grass Lick, West Virginia, a daughter of Alice Polsley and Virdie Lee Fisher. Mrs. Beeghly began a long-time career in secretarial work after graduating from Ripley High School and Charleston College of Commerce in Charleston, West Virginia in 1938. She was employed in the courthouse in Ripley from then until 1941, when she married Blaine A. Beeghly. Together, she and her husband moved to Washington, Pennsylvania, where he began teaching at Trinity High School. Mrs. Beeghly worked as an executive secretary for Molybdenum Corporation of American for 12 years. She was a resident of Washington until her death. In her early years in Washington, she did volunteer work at Washington Hospital, American Heart Association, and Church of the Covenant, where she taught Sunday School in the Junior Department and was an elected elder. She also belonged to Eastern Star in Ripley and Washington. After retiring, she took care of her grandchildren and enjoyed housekeeping and working in her garden growing flowers. An accomplished seamstress, Mrs. Beeghly took pleasure in sewing garments for family members. On October 19, 1941, she married Blaine A. Beeghly, who died October 14, 2008. Together, they had celebrated nearly sixty-seven years of marriage. Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Alice (Jay) Weir of Washington and Dr. Lynn (Stephen) LaCagnin of Morgantown, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Jason Weir, Bethany Rector, Stephanie Surber and twins, Meredith and Michael LaCagnin; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Andrew Weir, Madeleine Elizabeth Weir and Lionel Jack Rector; a brother, Edwin P. (Mary Louise) Fisher of Boynton Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Erik Maxwell Weir; four brothers, Burton, Weston, Paul and Kermit Fisher; two sisters, Velma Fisher and Georgia Shamblen; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Saturday, August 6, 2016, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the time of services, in the Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau St., Washington, with the Reverend Dr. Stuart D. Broberg officiating. A private burial in Shady Grove Cemetery, Brandonville, WV, will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Covenant, Memorial Fund, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301; the American Heart Association, Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Avenue, Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
