Ronald Earl Archer, 59, of Washington, died February 15, 2016, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, following complications from a stroke suffered on January 21, 2016. He was born June 17, 1956, in Washington, a son of the late Gerald Thomas Archer and Mary Pearl Davis Archer. Mr. Archer graduated from Washington High School, where he was a chess champion. He was retired from the Observer-Reporter, where he had worked fro 24 years. Mr. Archer enjoyed his cat, Flash, and loved buying lottery tickets at Isaly’s. Also, he enjoyed going to church at the Wolfdale Bible Chapel, where he sat in the back pew with his sister, Jean, and eating out, especially the monthly dinners with his cousins. Mr. Archer never missed watching a Pirates or Pens game on television. With all his health issues, he was still a jokester and had a sense of humor. Mr. Archer had a heart of gold and his family was honored to have him for a brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Vicky, and niece, Cindy, who were his caregivers. Surviving are two brothers, Jim (Julie) Archer and John (Barb) Archer, both of Washington; a sister, Vicky Hanning of Washington; a half-brother, Terry Archer; a half-sister, Jamie Yonish; nieces and nephews, Cindy Hanning, Bobby Hanning, Debbie Messick, Jackie Archer and John “J.R.” Archer, Jr.; and several great nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Shelondia Jean Archer, who died January 10, 2014. Friends will be received from 3 till 6 p.m., the time of service, on Thursday, February 18th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Fred Helmick officiating.
