William Hilton Catlin, Sr., 86, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Washington, died on Sunday, February 14, 2016, in Southwestern Nursing Care, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Canonsburg, on March 18, 1929, a son of the late John Thurston Catlin, Sr., and Myrtle Moore Catlin.
Mr. Catlin had worked as a mechanic for the Washington County Bridge Department for thirty-five years, and served as a deputy sheriff for Washington County for twenty years.
He was a member of St. Paul AME Church.
William was a loving, caring person, who taught his family the value of work and respect.
His first wife was Atheria Lavada Black. In 1978, he married Deborah Ann Skidmore, who died on October 1, 2013. Surviving are four sons, Kevin Catlin, of McKeesport, Duane Catlin, of Columbus, OH, William “Freemont” (Renay) Catlin, of Washington, and William (Kellie) Snavley, of Grafton, WV; three daughters, Deborah (Stacey Hackett) Lockett, of McKeesport, Shirley Snavley, and Denise Catlin, both of Washington; twenty grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sons, John H. Catlin, and William H. Catlin, Jr., two brothers, John Thurston Catlin, Jr., and George Catlin, and two sisters, Hannah Napper and Minerva Walton.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016, in the LeMoyne Community Center, 200 Forrest Ave., Washington. Additional information and guestbook are available on line at www.NealFuneralHome.com
