John G. Sisson

John G. Sisson, 95 of Washington, died Wednesday, February 16, 2016 at Townview Health and Rehabilitation. He was born October 28, 1920 in Uniontown, PA to David and Amelia (Gabriel) Sisson. John’s four brothers, David, Elias, Jacob, and Harry are deceased. After graduating from Uniontown High School in 1938, John attended Waynesburg College. In 1942, John joined the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed on Tinian Island in the Pacific. After he returned from the war, John started a used car business in his home town. He moved to Washington in 1957 and joined McClelland Motors, where he worked as sales manager for several years. John then forged out on his own, first in a partnership selling used cars, and then ultimately running his own business. By 1969, he was able to purchase McClelland Motors from ‘Diek’ McClelland and started John Sisson Motors. One of his proudest moments was when he received the telegram from Mercedes-Benz that he had been awarded the franchise. In 1971, he added the Datsun (Nissan) franchise to his dealership. In 1973, he added a second dealership, John Sisson Motors of Wheeling, where he held the Volvo and Mazda franchises. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was past President of the Washington Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the Tylerdale Civic Betterment League. He married Catherine Rose Murphy on June 3, 1950 who survives him. He has a son, John J. (Vicki) Sisson of Washington and daughter Rosemary (Tony) Linares, of Briarcliff Manor, NY. and four grandchildren Trey, of New York, NY, and Maggie Sisson, of Peters Township, PA, and Alexandra and John Linares of Briarcliff Manor, NY. John had many friends and loyal customers over his many years in business. He loved his family very much, and they will miss him and all his stories, which were still fresh even after they were told many, many times. Friends will be received Friday, February 12, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father William Feeney as celebrant. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 119 W. Chestnut St., Washington, PA or John F. Kennedy School, 111 W. Spruce St. Washington, PA or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
