Elizabeth Jane Vucic

Elizabeth Jane Vucic, 78 of Washington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the Donnell House. She was born December 17, 1937 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late William McCracken and Cecelia Hoffman. Elizabeth worked at the Washington Hospital for 25 years, where she started out in housekeeping and then became a nursing assistant and was also a union representative. She retired in 1998 to be the caregiver to her husband. She was compassionate and dedicated to caring for patients and many times being hired as a private duty aid to care for families loved ones. In 1981, her husband Joseph opened Joe’s Bakery in Washington, where she also worked. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family gatherings, dining out and crocheting. She also enjoyed spending many weekends at her daughter, Darlene’s home this past year and loved her cat, Missy and dog, Buddy. On January 28, 1956, she married Joseph Frank Vucic Sr., who died October 26, 2009. Surviving are six children, Joseph Vucic Jr of Washington, Thomas Vucic of Cincinnati, Michael (Tracie) Vucic of Washington, Denise (Michael) Dhans of Washington, Darlene (David) Myers of North Strabane, Deanne (Steven) Duchek of Vanderbilt; nine grandchildren, Thomas (Jodi) Vucic Jr., Timothy (Shannon) Vucic, Trevor Vucic, Michaelene Vucic, Michaela and Mackenzie Dhans, Amanda and Steven Duchek and Matthew Locy; seven great grandchildren, stepmother, Louella McCracken, two sisters, three stepbrothers, three stepsisters, three sister in laws and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a step brother. Friends will be received Friday, February 12, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington. A private burial will be held at the Washington Cemetery.
