Roy Dewain Irey, Sr., 93, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Woodcliffe Manor, Bethel Park.
He was born October 8, 1922, in West Finley, a son of James Lee Irey and Bertha Kenney Irey.
A graduate of Claysville High School, Mr. Irey was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the European Theater. He was involved in battles in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, and earned the World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with three bronze service stars, and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at Lightning Express and in maintenance at Trinity High School.
Mr. Irey was a member of Avery United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Center of Washington, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Indian Springs Rod and Gun Club in Hickory. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing dart ball with the Avery Church team.
On June 6, 1947, he married Mary Jane Randolph, who died December 21, 2008.
Surviving are three sons, Roy (Micky) Irey, Jr., of Marianna, Gary (Phyllis) Irey of West Alexander, and John Irey of Wellsburg, West Virginia; a daughter, Sally (Paul) Bissett of Houston; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Jason Irey; three sisters, Alberta Pethel, Mary Anesetti, and Dorothy Kern; and two brothers, Clifford and Robert Irey.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 29th, with Rev. Erik Hoeke officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
