Bernard Alexander Staskiewicz

Dr. Bernard Alexander Staskiewicz, 91, of Washington, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, in the Donnell House. He was born on August 20, 1924, in Monessen, a son of the late Alex and Veronica Wojciechowska Staskiewicz. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Dr. Staskiewicz was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, class of 1947. He received his Ph.D., in Thermodynamics from Carnegie-Mellon University. He taught for forty-six years at Washington and Jefferson College and was Chairman of the Chemistry Department and Pre-Med Committees. Bernard was captain of his Washington and Jefferson College basketball team, a lifelong sports fan, an usher at I.C. Church, and an avid reader. On September 1, 1949, he married Phyllis Jean Gauden, who survives. They were married for sixty-six years. Also surviving, are two sons, Dr. Thomas (Alma) Staskiewicz, of Mars, and Charles (Elizabeth) Staskiewicz, of Richland; three daughters, Gail Warner, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Catharine Ann (John) Simpkins, of Huntington, WV, and Barbara Jean (Matt) Daniels, of Canadensis, PA; and ten grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Edward, and a sister, Mary. Friends will be received on Friday, January 8, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated On Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, PA 15301. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212, or the Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling St., Washington, PA 15301. Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
