William W. “Bill” Conkle, 85, of Washington, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in Donnell House.
He was born October 18, 1930, in Hickory, a son of the late William W. Conkle and Margaret Berlinn Conkle.
Bill attended Canonsburg schools, and moved to Washington in 1951.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War in Pusan, Korea, from August 14, 1952, until his honorable discharge on June 18, 1954. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.
Mr. Conkle worked at Brockway Glass #7 and Tri State Engineering.
A lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Bill was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, and he enjoyed working with electronics.
On November 20, 1965, he married Donna J. Veltri, who survives. They just celebrated fifty years of marriage.
Also surviving are a daughter, Allison Livingston, of Washington; a granddaughter, Paige Livingston, of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Marguerette Host, Jean Lorenzi, and Henrietta Deakin. He was the last of his immediate family.
Friends will be received in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 1 to 5 p.m., the time of services, with Pastor Michael Singo officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
