Anna L. Bleen, 97, of Washington, formerly of Taylorstown, died Saturday, November 28, 2015, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born October 21, 1918, in Washington, a daughter of August N. Zappi, Sr. and Congetta Filosi Zappi.
Mrs. Bleen attended Greenwood School in Taylorstown. She worked for Hazel Atlas #2 and then later at Interstate Foodland.
A fan of NASCAR, she attended races with her family and had the great pleasure of meeting Jeff Gordon.
Mrs. Bleen was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Claysville.
On May 8, 1938, she married George P. Bleen, who died May 8, 1950.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (John “Bee”) Bednarski of Washington; a sister, Elizabeth Orisko of Houston; three grandchildren, John (Lisa) Bednarski Jr., Michael (Elizabeth) Bednarski and Melissa (Jimmy) Lummis; three great-grandchildren, Gianna Lummis, Brendon Bednarski and Domenic Ventura; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
Deceased are brothers, Pete Zappi, Nick Zappi, August Nathaniel Zappi Jr.; and sisters, Mary Maggi, Derna Baxter, Isabelle Petrone, Constance Zappi, Joan Shook and Helen DeJohn.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 1st, in Sacred Heart Church, Claysville. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Those attending the funeral Mass should meet at the church.
