Donald Roy Bell

Donald Roy Bell, 86, of Hickory, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in the Washington County Health Center. He was born October 10, 1929, in New Alexandria, Ohio, a son of Wilbur Bryan Bell and Mable Zende Bell. For 35 years, Mr. Bell worked as a shipper at Weirton Steel, and, for 17 years, was the caretaker at Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Hickory. He was a member of Hickory Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he played in the dart ball league. In addition, he was a member of the Lions Club and the 25-year club of Weirton Steel. Mr. Bell served on the Mt. Prospect Cemetery Board for many years and was involved with the Hickory Community Center. Mr. Bell served in the Army from March 21, 1951, until his honorable discharge on February 20, 1953, as a corporal. He served in Germany and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal – Germany. Surviving are his wife of 66 year, Sara Iams Bell, whom he married on May 28, 1954; a son, Bryan Bell (Cheryl); two daughters, Brenda McMillian (Samuel) and Janet Bell, all of Hickory; a sister, Dorothy Sisler of Mingo Junction, Ohio; four grandchildren, Maria Dunn (Vincent), Bryan Bell, Samuel McMillian (Michelle) and Sean McMillian; and three great-grandchildren, Rylan Bell, Kiersten Bell and Vincent Dunn. Deceased are two brothers, Raymond and Floyd Bell. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 21st, with Pastor Lou Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Military rites will be accorded graveside by the honor guard of VFW 191.
