Ila Frances Narigon

Ila Frances King Narigon, died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Washington County Health Center. She was born in Independence Township, Washington County, November 3, 1917 the daughter of Daniel and Matilda Barnhart King. Ila was the last of thirteen siblings. She attended a one room school that housed all eight grades. She graduated from Avella High School. She drove children to a special school in Burgettstown that her daughter Diane attended. She ironed clothes for several Burgettstown families as she waited for school to be out. She waitressed at the former “Shanty Restaurant” in Hickory, and for many years was a teller at Equibank until her retirement. Ila was a member of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Buffalo Grange, Rebecca Lodge and Washington Senior Citizens. She loved to play cards, square dance, playing darts and watch Steeler football. She loved family get togethers. Her favorite hymn was “One Day At A Time”, however, she loved to sing all hymns and during her stay at the Washington County Health Center, her daughter-in-law (Cora) would go play the piano and they would sing hymns together. She loved to watch “The Sound of Music” and her favorite actresses were Julie Andrews and Doris Day. As long as her health permitted, she enjoyed taking part in the activities at the Health Center. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. On June 16, 1936 in Wellsburg, WV, she married Harold Lewis Narigon, who died July 31, 1987. Surviving are three sons, Harold David (Cora) Narigon of Hickory, Gerald Lee Narigon of Wellsburg, WV and Phillip Emerson (Carol) Narigon of Washington; fourteen grandchildren, David, Donnie, Doug, Doug, Jerry, Joey, Phillip, Stephen and Colleen Narigon, Carla Herrnberger, Cathi Proudfit, Craig Cowieson, Michelle Antanovich, Amy Bassford and Mike Kanzius.; 27 great grandchildren; eight great, great, grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, including a nephew, Crell (Mary Ann) Plants, and a niece Mary Ward, that she was very fond of. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Cowieson, who died May 20, 1979 and a daughter, Mildred Diane Narigon, who died September 15, 1998. Also deceased is a granddaughter. Friends will be received Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes. 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at West Alexander Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 175 Carlisle Rd., Claysville, PA 15323.
