Howard William “Uncle Bill” Griggs, 83 of Amity, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in the Washington Hospital.
He was born April 26, 1932 in Lakewood, NJ, a son of the late Howard and Minnie Ellifritz Griggs.
A graduate of Washington High School, he was employed at Washington and Jefferson College as a security guard for 16 years.
Howard served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force from 1950 until his Honorable Discharge in 1971.
For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Aircraft Crewman Badge.
He loved spending time with his family, and was a member of the Arms Club, and the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
Surviving are a niece, Nancy Loughman; and three nephews, John, David and Mike Lehew.
Deceased are a brother, Sumner Griggs; and a sister, Betty Ann Lehew.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 3 to 7 p.m. the time of service, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington.
Burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, will be private, and held at the convenience of the family.
