James Gottlieb Dallmeyer, 94, of Washington, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015, in his home.
He was born August 22, 1921, in Cross Creek Village, son of William Frederick Dallmeyer, and Anna Mary Johnston Dallmeyer.
He was a graduate of Hickory High School, class of 1939. After graduation, he worked in the oil fields in Michigan, with his dad and brother, until he entered the service in September, 1942. Mr. Dallmeyer served in North Africa, in the Army Air Corps Communication System, until his Honorable Discharge, as a First Lieutenant, in March, 1946.
James was a heavy equipment and truck operator, until his retirement in 1983. He had been employed by Oscar Jackson, of Burgettstown, John Cowden, of Hickory, Suwak Trucking, Lighting Express, McClean Trucking, and Russell Industries.
A member of Hickory Evangelical Presbyterian Church, he served his church as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and for forty years was a member of the church choir.
Mr. Dallmeyer was a member of Mt. Pleasant Township Historical Library Association, the Washington County Historical Society, and the Hickory High School Alumni Association.
He enjoyed his family, board games, crossword puzzles, sports, music, reading, and traveling. James and his wife were twenty-five-year members of Wally Byam Caravan Club, and traveled to all fifty states, and several countries overseas.
On March 15, 1944, he married Elizabeth “Bettie” Viola Dinsmore, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Hutchison, of New Brunswick, NJ; Lois Nesbitt, of Murrysville, PA; and Leah (Arnold) Lewis, of Sissonville, WV; five grandchildren, Annie Shipman, Sarah Hutchison, Bonnie Nesbitt, Robin Nesbitt, Allison Lewis, and Andre Lewis; and two great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachael, and Caleb Shipman.
Deceased are four sisters, Myrtle, Viola, Dorothy and Ruth, and one brother, William.
Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services in Hickory Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 Main St., Hickory, with Rev. Lou Templeton officiating.
