James Lawson Smith, 85, of Washington, died Saturday, October 31, 2015, in his home.
He was born December 28, 1929, in Washington, a son of James E. Smith and Margaret Ellen Gray Smith.
A graduate of Washington High School, Mr. Smith retired from West Penn Power Company, where he had worked as an equipment manager. In addition, he was the manager of West Penn Power Credit Union.
He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the Elks, where he had served as treasurer.
Mr. Smith served in the Army from October 17, 1951, until his transfer to the Army Reserves on September 2, 1953, and continued to serve in the Reserves until October 16, 1959, when he was honorably discharged.
On July 9, 1954, in he married Mary Jane Dalton, who survives.
Also surviving are a brother, William D. Smith (Sarah) of Noblesville, Indiana; and two nephews, William D. Smith Jr. (Michele) of Noblesville and Robert A. Smith (companion Lloyd Osborn) of Roselle, Illinois.
Deceased is a sister, Iva McClellan.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 4th with Rev. Stephen Smythers officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
