George E. Barney, 92, of McMurray, died Thursday, October 22, 2015, in Country Meadows, Bridgeville.
He was born September 25, 1923, in Eldersville, a son of Archie Milligan Barney and Edith Jackson Barney.
Mr. Barney graduated from Hickory High School and worked for 40 years for the U.S. Government with the Department of Agriculture’s Milk Marketing Division.
A veteran of World War II, he served in “Patton’s Army” with Company I, 377th Infantry, in Europe. He was involved in battles in Rhineland and Central Europe and was wounded in action on November 27, 1944. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.
Mr. Barney had coached softball in his younger years. His hobbies included yard work, golfing, sports and reading.
He was a member of Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church.
On August 8, 1947, he married Ruth Allison, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Marvin (Arlene) Barney of Warren, Ohio, Mark (Brenda) Barney of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Milton (Lorelle) Barney of Bethel Park; a brother, Lester “Bud” (Doris) Barney of Washington; a sister-in-law, Vera Barney of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Erin, Beth, Alex, Shawn, Lance, Darin, Andrew, and Rachel; and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, James “Jim” Barney.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., in Monday, October 26th in Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Those attending the service should go directly to the church.
