Ruth Anne McGurgan, 86, loving mother and grandmother, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, in Donnell House following a brief illness.
She was born March 26, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Harry Harte and Elizabeth Magill Harte.
Ruth graduated from Langley High School, Sheraden, in 1947 and from California University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business.
For 20 years, she worked as an accountant for the United Mine Workers Health and Retirement Fund in Washington, D.C. Some of her many adventures in life include having been a real estate agent in Pittsburgh, owning her own pizza shop in Carmichaels, and being a tour bus guide in Washington, D.C. While in D.C., she enjoyed riding her bicycle on the many trails around the city. Ruth loved country music and had been very active in line dancing and country western dancing. In addition, she loved traveling and seeing the world, and was an excellent seamstress and crafter.
Ruth was a member of Buffalo Grange and the Washington Senior Citizens Center where she was a member of the traveling dart ball team. She loved her grandchildren and was actively involved in their activities. She especially loved going to the fairgrounds to watch her granddaughter in 4H horse shows.
Surviving are a son, Dennis McGurgan of Washington; a daughter, Jeanann Clements (Ronald) of Claysville; three grandchildren, Kevin Clements and Katie Clements, both of Claysville, and Brenden McGurgan of Washington; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Elizabeth Zierden and Grace Walton
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 28th, with Pastor Linda Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Buffalo Grange, 429 Pleasant Valley Road, Washington, PA 15301.
