Paul David Yates Sr., 95 of Eighty Four, died Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Donnell House.
He was born May 5, 1920 in Independence the son of the late Clarence and Ethel Cunningham Yates.
Paul graduated from Trinity High School in 1939.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Northern France as a Rifleman, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, American Theater Service Meal and a Purple Heart.
Paul worked for Suwak Trucking as a truck driver and was a farmer.
He was a member of Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, VFW, National Steam Gas Association and the Farmer’s Union.
On February 7, 1948 he married Mary Elizabeth Ferrell who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John W. Yates of Eighty Four, Paul D. Yates Jr. of Washington; a daughter, Donna (Bob) Yates-Jones of Eighty Four; a brother, Carl (Wilma) Yates of Bentleyville; four grandchildren, Rodney A. Yates, John W. Yates Jr., Dean W. Yates all of Eighty Four, Heath A. Taggart of Bentleyville; six great grandchildren, Aubree Yates, Hailee Yates, Shane Yates, Kavaya-Rae Yates, Brayden Taggart, Mylah Taggart; step great grandchild, Dalton Harvey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased are a daughter, Ruth A. Yates-Taggart Kirr; three sisters, Dorothy Meloy, Evelyn Hamilton and Esther Yates.
Friends will be received Monday, October 12, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Dykstra officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
