Roy Clifford Williams

November 1, 1922 — September 22, 2015

Cliff Williams of Hickory, PA and Marathon, FL died on September 22, 2015, at the home in which he was born 92 years ago to Isaac Taylor and Lucy Kinemond Williams. If a man's success can be measured by hard work, dedication to service and a loving family, Cliff was, by any account, a successful man. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and served as a flying instructor for the USAF. He was certified to pilot both B-17 and B-29 bombers and achieved the rank of Captain. Following discharge, Cliff started Cliff's TV Sales & Service in Hickory, and will forever be remembered as “the TV guy” in the community. He enjoyed his retirement wintering in Marathon, FL, where he continued to work part-time making fresh donuts at a weekend market, and will forever be remembered as “the donut guy” in the Keys. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant VFD, Indian Springs Rod and Gun and American Legion 902. Cliff was married twice during his long life, first to Clara Mansfield in 1942, and to Mary Rowbotham in 1950. He had five children. Following his passing, his son Ken discovered a scrap of paper on Cliff's desk upon which he had written: “Get even – live long enough to be a problem to your kids.” His children want to lovingly remind him that he succeeded in doing that, too. He is survived by his sons Kenneth (Mary); Roy Foland (Terry); John Charles Foland (Jean); daughter Dolores Ann Burbach (Jim); and sister Wilma Porkolab, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Mary and Clara, his brother John Taylor (killed in action in WWII), sister Dorothy Orrick and son John Albert. A memorial service with military honors will be held at Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 26 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bob Shull officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Houston American Legion Post 902, 48 Western Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
