Clive W. Phillips

Clive W. Phillips, 89, of Washington, died Monday, August 3, 2015, in his home. He was born November 15, 1925, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Clive and Clara Wood Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Brownsville High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in September, 1943. For his service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, and the Air Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1963, and retired from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer. Later he retired from RCA, in the Meadowlands. Mr. Phillips was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer, and ministered at the Washington County Correctional Facility, with Gideon's International. An avid coin and stamp collector, he was a member of the Washington Numismatic Association. One of his favorite hobbies was cutting firewood to use in his wood-burning stove. On September 8, 1951, he married Mary Teagarden, who died April 6, 2008. Surviving are a son, James O Phillips, of Washington; two daughters, Barbara Phillips (Jerry Holmes), and Cindy McCoy (John), both of Washington; a brother, John Ralph Phillips, of Millersburg, OH; five grandchildren, Paul McConnell, Aubrey Eakin, Rachel Phillips, Ashley McCoy, and Amanda McCoy; nine great grandchildren, Riley McConnell, Julie Eakin, Lorah Eakin, James Eakin, Marissa Eakin, Donovan Eakin, Brycen McCoy, Wayden McCoy, and Levi Snyder; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, James Oliver Phillips. Visitation for Mr. Phillips was held in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, on Friday, August 7, 2015. Burial followed in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, on August 8, 2015. Military Rites were accorded graveside, by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
