Robert “Sonny” Blayney, 78, of Washington, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, in his home.
He was born July 11, 1937, in Butler, a son of Robert Carson Blayney and Adeline Dixon Blayney.
Mr. Blayney graduated from Claysville High School in 1957; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He worked at Washington Steel as a crane operator/caster for 34 1/2 years.
Mr. Blayney was a member of the Claysville American Legion, Hunt Kennedy Post 639, and a life-member of South Franklin Volunteer Fire Company.
When he was younger, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.
On September 15, 1967, he married Janet “Darlene” Dinch, with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this September.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tracey McMahon, of Connellsville, and Bobbi D. Blayney (Herb Gantt), of Washington; three sisters, Lois Scott, of Washington, Mary Lou Holden, of Claysville, and Jeanie Armstrong, of Taylorstown; eight grandchildren, Tabitha Bryant, D. J. Thompson, Aurora McMahon, Hunter McMahon, Ian Wood, Aubree Wood, Elijiah Gantt, and Jaiden Gantt; and two great grandchildren, Blake Buchanan and Sophie Thompson.
Deceased is a daughter, Kimberly Ann Wood, who died August 22, 2009.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, with Nellie K. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Claysville American Legion, Hunt Kennedy, Post 639.
