Thelma J. Zimmerman

d. June 24, 2015

Thelma J. Zimmerman Beloved Mother/Retired Cafeteria Worker Thelma J. Zimmerman, of Hickory, passed from this life into her eternal heavenly home Wednesday, June 24, 2015, in Donnell House, after an extended illness. Mrs. Zimmerman was the only daughter of the late Mike and Anna Rodsky of Meadowlands-Rich Hill area. She attended schools in what is now known as the Chartiers-Houston School District. She was a retired cafeteria worker/manager of Hickory Elementary School and a homemaker all of her life. Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Allan, whom she married March 8, 1968; a son, Kenneth E. (Kellylee) Alrutz of New York; a daughter, Patricia A. (Raymond) Platts of Scenery Hill; grandchildren, Rikki and Graham Alrutz, Mark (Elizabeth Erjavec) Platts, Ray Platts, Jr.; and two special “Little Ones,” as she referred to her great-grandchildren, Lilah and Logan Platts. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Susan Zimmerman of Missouri; three nieces, Adrienne Guelker, Lorraine King and Lori Chase; one nephew, Tim Rodsky; four great nephews, Michael Guelker, Adam Rodsky, Bill King and Chad King; one great-niece, Amanda Rodsky; and special friends and neighbors, Duane and Faye Scott (AKA the Goody Lady), who always brought presents to help cheer her. Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of First Lutheran Church, Washington, and attended faithfully while able. First and foremost, she loved her family, but enjoyed browsing through cookbooks, cooking and baking, reading, and going on “mystery” shopping trips with her daughter and husband that always led to lunch or dinner. Her most recent special times were spent with her two great-grandchildren. Although not a very exciting life to many, Thelma was happy and content with what she had and what she had done. She was never one to complain, even when her health issues hindered her daily life. Thelma’s loving heart, gentle spirit, kind compassion and smile will be remembered always. She was loved and is already missed. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Andrew "Doc" and Rose Rodsky, John and Julie Rodsky and Nick Rodsky. Friends will be received Sunday from 4 till 7 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, June 29, in First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, with Pastor Robert Grewe officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations in Mrs. Zimmerman’s memory to First Lutheran Church, Attention: Roof Restoration Fund, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, PA 15301, or to Donnell House, Hospice Care of Washington Health System, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
