Russell G. Burhenn, 90, of South Strabane, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Donnell House.
He was born May 20, 1925 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Edward J. Burhenn and Jessie Garland Burhenn.
He graduated from South Hills High School and attended Iowa State University.
Russell served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater receiving the Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European, African,
Middle Eastern Medal with five Bronze Stars. He worked in the printing trades as a lithographer, cameraman and salesman, retiring from the sales force of Georgia Pacific Corporation.
In his early years, Russ was active in the Boy Scouts serving as a Troop Leader and Neighborhood Commissioner. He was also a licensed Real Estate salesman. He was an advanced Amateur Radio Operator with the call sign N3NEL. His interest in Antique Automobiles led him to own three over his lifetime. He was an avid train collector and member of the Train Collectors for over 45 years. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
On July 17, 1948 he married Dolores (Dee) Danner, who survives. They were married for 67 years.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Burhenn of Gore, VA and a granddaughter, Laura A. Burhenn of Los Angeles, CA.
Deceased is a son, James R. Burhenn.
Friends will be received Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Schott officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery in Bethel Park.
