Walter Richard "Dick" Huggins, 86, of Canonsburg, died peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Consulate Health Care of North Strabane Township, with his loving daughter by his side.
He was born December 11, 1928, in Washington, a son of Oliver Huggins and Mabel Runnion Huggins.
Following his high school graduation in 1946, Mr. Huggins joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Wisconsin and USS Juneau.
He worked for 40 years as a pressman at the Observer-Reporter.
Mr. Huggins was a member of Washington Horse Shoe Club and a former member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a fan of NASCAR.
On February 7, 1975, he married Evelyn L. Moore, who died August 18, 2009.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Huggins (companion Mark Chaney) of Washington; a stepdaughter, Carolyn M. (Tom) Hughes of Glyde; three stepsons, Charles G. (Sandy) Moore of Florida, Raymond M. (Patty) Platts of Scenery Hill and Henry Tom (Sherrill) Platts of Pittsburgh; a sister, Roberta Bannister of Washington; six stepgrandchildren; a foster grandchild; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a stepgrandchild.
At the request of the deceased, private burial was held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
