Edith Marie Burk

Edith Marie Burk, 95, of Washington, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She was born November 10, 1919, in Washington, a daughter of Walter Kauffeld and Edna Schmalz Kauffeld. Mrs. Burk graduated from Trinity High School, where she was the May Queen in 1939. She worked as a clerk at Thompson’s Hardware and enjoyed sewing, traveling and reading. Mrs. Burk was a member of the former Third United Presbyterian Church and the Young at Heart group. On May 24, 1941, she married George H. Burk, who died October 7, 1986. Surviving are three sons, George D. (Patricia) Burk, Gary L. (Debbie) Burk and Thomas D. (Sharl) Burk, all of Washington; two daughters, Patricia A. (Sam) Sorice of Washington and Karen (Thomas) Weirich of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren, Jodi Hess, Kristi Greene, Gary Burk, Ashley McAdoo, Lindsay Grasha, Stephen Sorice, Matthew Sorice, Molly Sorice, Christian Weirich, Jonathan Weirich, Cori Newman, and Jordan Burk; and 18 great-grandchildren. Deceased are two sisters, Burney Porter and Mary Lou McCarty; and a grandson, Michael D. Burk. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 till 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services and burial in Forest Lawn Gardens will be private.
