Catherine Louise Greer Hopkins, 83, of Washington, died on Saturday, May 16, 2015, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
She was born on September 12 1931, in Washington, a daughter of the late Edward and Beulah Stuck Greer.
Mrs. Hopkins attended the Washington Seminary, on a scholarship, until it closed. She then transferred to Washington High School, where she graduated in 1950
Catherine worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company. After marrying her husband, George, she moved several times, and then worked in Virginia at Bell Telephone Company, where she retired after 22 years of service.
Following a move back to Washington, PA, she joined Abundant Life Baptist Church.
She was a member of Faith in Action, Bell Pioneers, and was a volunteer at Washington Hospital.
On May 16, 1952, she married George H. “Howdy” Hopkins, who died in March, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, Douglas, George, Jr., and Joseph Hopkins, and two daughters, Vicki Romick and Valerie Slaven; a brother, Donald Greer, six sisters, Bonnie Gregg, Carolyn Spring, Marlene Sargent, Charlene Reisch, Denise Spruell, and Virginia Sue Dinge; fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Deceased, are a son, Michael Hopkins, and a sister, Patricia Fosnight.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015, in Abundant Life Baptist Church, 269 Cameron Rd., Washington, with Rev. George Garancosky and Pastor Ray Fosnight co-officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date, in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
