The burning embers, which are now my heart, were set ablaze on April 8, 2015, when my beautiful mother, Gwendolyn C. Meyers died of cancer after courageously battling a series of mini-strokes. Born in her beloved Johnstown, PA on July 9, 1923, the daughter of George and Lavina Barnhart, mom’s deep-abiding faith and commitment to her family, husband, Frank L. Meyers Jr. who died June 14, 1986 and her four children make it a given that she is smiling brightly down upon us from Heaven’s Hall of Fame. An impeccably intelligent woman, this homemaker had the God-given gift of an absolutely glorious singing voice and was blessed with the ability to play a masterful piano. She performed in several theatrical productions as a youth and worked as a secretary for a Colonel during World War II. Gwen is survived by three adult children, Carson “Buck” Meyers of Harrisburg, Clair McNaughton of Detroit, MI and Craig Meyers of Washington. Gwen’s third born, Scott Meyers, passed away in September 2012. This loving matriarch had three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The depths of sorrow and remorse will not be easily extinguished, for the honor, which was mom’s presence in our lives was sweet and golden, yet it will be her everlasting spirit that will allow us to endure, albeit a much lonelier journey now. Not only my Mom, but my best friend, although the countless tears which will flow could ever possibly fill the emptiness that will be forever felt missing the one person who has meant so much to me, I will always feel blessed to have a mom so spectacular. Goodbye Mom, I love you.
