Robert J. Hunter, Sr.

Robert John Hunter, Sr., 70, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, in his residence. He was born April 18, 1944, in Washington, a son of the late Robert and Ione Hitchcock Hunter. Mr. Hunter graduated from Washington High School and worked at General Refractories in brick manufacturing. He was active in Silver Sneakers and volunteered at the Washington County Food Bank. Mr. Hunter was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington, where he sang in the choir, served as an elder and was a member of the board of sessions. His favorite annual event at church was the hanging of the greens. In addition, he taught at Vacation Bible School as a testimony of his love for children. His wife, Marilyn Hochever Hunter, died in 1971. Surviving are a son, Robert John Hunter (Patricia) of Ravenna, Ohio; three daughters, Brenda Hunter of Courtland, Ohio, Julie Hunter of Warren, Ohio, and Kathy Culbertson; two sisters, Rebecca LaPosta of Washington and Anna Belle Amos of West Alexander; six grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Hunter, Justine Hunter, Nicole Lindenmuth, and Tori and Taylor Culbertson; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special friend, Peggy Armstrong, whom the family thanks for her love and support. Deceased are a brother, Samuel Hunter, and a sister, Sandra Carroll. Friends will be received Saturday from 10 a.m. till Noon, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Following visitation, funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Fourth Presbyterian Church, Jefferson Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
